The roots — Badr Siwane

The roots

Born in France to a French mother and a Moroccan father, Badr Siwane was a hyperactive child, hard to channel. It was by discovering triathlon at the Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois club that he finally found where to thrive. The story then began to be written, little by little. Even when doors closed, even in the face of sceptical looks, his parents’ encouragement always allowed him to keep looking ahead.

A boundless energy to channel

From a very young age, Badr is a hyperactive child, always on the move, curious and bursting with energy. His parents enrol him in a multi-sport association, without any discipline truly calming him. The turning point comes by chance: in the car, his father spots a triathlon competition on television and suggests he give it a try. A club has just opened in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois, run by Bernard and Christine. It would be his first contact with the sport that would transform his life.

First steps in triathlon

On the “Avenir” youth races of the Île-de-France region, the beginnings are hard: often last, with no real success. But for Badr, what matters isn’t winning — it’s letting off steam and having fun. Race after race, he gains endurance, confidence and technique. He stands out not through innate talent, but through perseverance. Little by little, the first local podiums arrive. It was only the start of a long adventure.

Alongside, Badr explores hip-hop and parkour, disciplines where he expresses his creativity. This versatility costs him dearly: a few days before the French Cadet Duathlon Championships, he badly injures his left wrist attempting a three-metre backflip. The accident brutally ends his immediate ambitions. A period of doubt follows — but the unwavering support of his parents restores his confidence. In August, he makes a decision that changes everything: “I want to start again, but this time, I want to be the best.”

From then on, Badr commits body and soul: rigorous discipline, intensive training, an impeccable lifestyle. The results follow — French Junior League champion, 4th at the French Junior Championships, 9th at the Athlone European Cup with the French team. But he decides to follow his heart and represent Morocco, his father’s country. At a time when triathlon was still little developed there, he joins his friend Mehdi Essadiq to write a new chapter for the sport in Morocco. Without institutional support, his first international competitions — U23 World Championships in Edmonton, Asian Cup in Hong Kong — are funded by his parents.

In parallel, Badr studies radio/TV presenting and production at the Studio École de France in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Master’s level), with radio internships at Skyrock and Fun Radio. His daily routine is a marathon: up at 4:25, train at 4:45, first swim session from 6:30, classes from 8:30 to 13:45, work in the afternoon, then a second training session in the evening. An iron organisation that forges an exceptional ability to manage his time and priorities.

Passionate about the airwaves, Badr creates and hosts his own radio show on the community station Latitude 91, in France. Behind the mic as on the start line, he cultivates the same energy: to pass on, to share and to bring people together. An experience that shapes his voice and media ease, which he now puts at the service of Moroccan sport.

For Badr, challenges, failures and injuries are not barriers but opportunities to grow stronger. His philosophy is clear: “It doesn’t matter where you come from — what matters is where you want to go and what you’re willing to do to get there.” His message is universal: “Every step counts. Every fall is a lesson. Every dream deserves to be pursued, no matter the obstacles.”
